Being unhappy with how your smile looks can cause you to hide it away. Cosmetic dentistry, to improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile, is increasingly popular and accessible to more patients than ever. However, some patients can be put off by the thought of potentially expensive and invasive treatments.
At Forest Dental we believe everyone deserves a smile to be proud of. Our Mini Smile Makeover is a painless, non-invasive, and cost-effective way to give your smile that boost, and unlike other cosmetic dental procedures can usually be carried out in just one visit to the practice.
We use a technique called composite bonding to cover minor imperfections and improve the colour, shape and overall appearance of your teeth. It uses the same material used for tooth-coloured white fillings, and is usually performed on the front teeth, those teeth that are visible when you smile.
Bonding dentistry has seen huge advances in recent years. Some examples of where it can be used are to close small gaps and to hide minor tooth rotations and other small imperfections. No damage at all is caused to your teeth – there is no drilling and no injections involved – and it is a cost-effective alternative to porcelain veneers.
Composite bonding uses 3D design to help create your perfect smile. This software is used to design your smile before any treatment is started, so you know exactly what results to expect. The next stage is to make a 3D wax-up to check aesthetics and function from all angles.
Once you're happy with the smile design, your dentist will carefully apply composite material to your teeth, carefully shaping it to look entirely natural. Because the material used is the same as that used for white fillings, your dentist will carefully match the colour to that of your natural teeth. A special light is then used to harden the composite material, meaning you will walk out of the practice on the same day with a brand new, beautiful smile.
Composite bonding is also useful in cases of bruxism (night-time tooth grinding) where teeth can get worn down.
